8 Weeks

How far along: 8 Weeks
How big is the baby: Size of a raspberry. Raspberries are huge!
Weight gain: None
Clothes: Regular. They just all don't look great.
Sleep: For the last few weeks I have been waking up several times throughout the night to go to the bathroom, get a drink of water (OMG! THE THIRST!) and then not be able to fall back asleep.
Movement: Not yet!
Food/Aversions: Pretty much same ole same ole. I have been loving fresh fruit. Grapes. Apples. Yum! I feel fine most of the time! I have had some icky feeling days, but nothing that isn't easily dealt with!
What I miss: Nothing. I am a really good pretend drinker though. Everyone always says they will know when I am pregnant when I stop drinking. I fooled everyone at my brother-in-law's 40th birthday on Saturday. I brought my own mixed drink of "wine and sprite" (sprite and cranberry juice) and drank it all night!
What I am looking forward to: Looking pregnant!
Oh! And This: I had my first appt today at the OB office with the NP. I switched to a new doctor because i want to deliver at a different hospital. This one also comes highly recommended. I loved the NP and was floating on air when she said everything felt nice and big and 8 weeks! Yay! She said I could schedule my ultrasound for anytime. So Friday it is! Friday! That is so soon! I can totally wait until Friday!!!! Then it will only be 3 more weeks until my 12 week appointment!

ALSO:
I LOVE waking up and checking my favorite pregnancy apps as soon as I wake up. I have 5 favorites that I check before getting out of bed. There is one I take notes in. But I love the others for their daily tips! Each one has different tips. And Monday morning is the BEST when I get to read all of the new weekly updates!

The apps I like:
BabyBump: This one I use to journal/take notes and has weekly and daily updates
Pregnancy:  Has good weekly and daily updates
Sprout: Has awesome pictures (like the one below) and daily and weekly updates
Baby Center: Has a checklist item for each day and also some sort of tip or article
WebMD Pregnancy: Has 5 new things each week, and one changes every day.

Most of them have tips about your body, the baby, any general pregnancy tips.

 FRESH FRUIT! YUM!

This picture is from my brother-in-law's 40th birthday party on Saturday! I am a great pretend drinker! I opted out of the shot by saying I had church in the morning and I would take a picture!

7 Weeks

How far along: 7 Weeks
How big is the baby: Size of a blueberry
Weight gain: None
Doctor: Can't wait! 1 more week until my check-up!
Clothes: Regular
Sleep: SO TIRED ALL DAY! Thursday afternoon I hit a wall and could barely function for the last 45 minutes of the day. I couldn't even read a story to the kids because I couldn't move enough to sign. I hope that doesn't continue! I get through the week by taking a short nap most days before I go to class at night!
Movement: Not yet!
Food/Aversions: I have been feeling yucky during the day unless I eat little snacks. Apparently my students have noticed! (See above). I have a whole stash on my desk: dried pineapple, edamame chips, pumpkin seeds, dried plantains with sea salt, granola, and then extra fresh fruit I pack in my lunch. I have had random bloat/heartburn some days for no obvious reason. Saturday night I didn't even eat that much at our dinner out and I felt SO full.
What I miss: Nothing yet!
What I am looking forward to: Feeling more pregnant! Whatever that means.
Oh! And This: We had an amazing weekend with good friends (2 other couples) staying at a resort about an hour away. One of my girlfriends is pregnant too (due in January), but it was still a blast even without us two drinking. I was the DD for our pontoon boat rental. I had a blast being the captain! I included a picture of my Jamberry nails. I have been trying to avoid a lot of my fun nailpolishes and only painting with 4 or 5 free (explained here) types. Or the Jamberry stickers! Oh! And I needed a raincoat for doing Parent Drop Off and Pick Up at school in the yucky Chicago weather. I decided to get a size up so it would last me through the winter. But it is kind of huge!

6 Weeks

How far along: 6 Weeks
How big is the baby: The size of a sweet pea. What a fun nickname for a little baby!
Weight gain: None
Doctor: 2 more weeks!
Clothes: Regular
Sleep: Inconsistent at night
Movement: Not yet!
Food/Aversions: Mostly normal. Have been very burpy sometimes after eating...like maybe I could throw up, but not really. I don't really want to eat a lot, but then suddenly I am hungry. I did get TOTALLY grossed out and gagged one day when one of my students had an accident in his pants (just #1!). Normally it wouldn't bother me at all...but gross!
What I miss: Adam! He has been mostly gone since August 19 and it makes me sad! He has been home a few days here and there, but I miss him a lot! My dad came over today to take this weekly photo for me!
What I am looking forward to: The first trimester being over so I can feel more secure.
TMI: I am a total POAS addict (it is internet lingo, look it up if you want). I love seeing it get so much darker!
Oh! And This: I got to tell Erin on Wednesday! It was so exciting! I wanted to Facetime with her over the weekend, but we couldn't work it out with our schedules and the time difference. I told her I wanted to show her some of my professor clothes I had laid out on my bed, and then also had two onesies (a boy one and a girl one) that say "My Auntie Rocks". She was sobbing and sobbing! And then so was I! It made it feel really real then. I told some of my good friends I used to work with when we went out for drinks on Friday. They were watching me like hawks so there was no way to hide it. They knew we were trying this summer when I didn't drink at our cabin weekend. There was no way to hide that all weekend! They are so excited to find out a baby is finally on board!

My sister after she saw the onesies! It was hard to maneuver taking a picture with the iPad while holding the phone!

I embroidered these for a co-worker's new twin granddaughters and thought "OMG. I want a baby." and then realized, "OMG! I'm having a baby!"

5 Weeks

How far along: 5 Weeks
How big is the baby: The size of an apple seed. That is much bigger than a Poppy Seed!
Weight gain: None
Doctor: Called a new OB to make an appointment because I am switching docs. Called back to check what they would do at the appt and they said they don't do an ultrasound until 20 weeks unless there is an issue. 20 weeks?!?! That is not going to work for me! Had a major meltdown. Major. Went to Target with Adam and bought adorable grey baby things and felt better. Decided today to go with a different new doc office that was also highly recommended  They do an early 8-12 week ultrasound and then the 20 week scan.
Clothes: Regular
Sleep: Inconsistent. Sometimes wake up and cannot fall back asleep. Very tired during the day!
Movement: Not yet!
Food/Aversions: Mostly everything is normal. One morning I woke up and felt nauseous. Ate some almonds, went back to sleep, and then woke up normal. A few times feeling yucky, bloated or burpy. Nothing I can't deal with!
What I miss: Nothing right now! Not drinking while trying was frustrating. But now it is fine because I know I am growing a baby. I happily gave up all diet pop, caffeine, and anything on the questionable side at all! I am definitely a "better safe than sorry" type of gal. We went to a concert on Saturday night and it was a blast! I just told people that I had a bad cold and took cold medicine and cold medicine and beer don't mix well with me!
What I am looking forward to: Sharing our good news with more people. I want to tell EVERYONE! And keep it a secret at the same time. I want everyone to know this exciting life-altering news! But it is also scary.
TMI: Seeing the pregnancy tests get darker and show up faster is the best ever....yes...I am still taking them. Adam pointed out my collection of them on the counter and asked, "Is THIS normal?"
Oh! And This: We told Mom and Dad on Sunday! We had them over for dinner. Before dinner we gave them each a present to open. I made Mom blocks that say "__weeks until I'm a Grandma" that she can change each week. I embroidered Dad a shirt that says "Captain Grandpa" (because he has a sailboat). Mom was almost hyperventilating! It was so fun to tell them! They were so surprised. Funny though: apparently my dad was disappointed I hadn't announced the weekend before when we'd had dinner together until he found out my mom had invited us, we hadn't invited ourselves. That is some sort of dad's intuition because I had just found out I was pregnant the day before!

Oh, and I love the May 2014 Mamas Facebook group I am part of. One day I looked at it and thought....*I* am going to be a mama?!?!

More fun from this week:

Adam was reading his emails about responsibility of the dads and texted me this one night! Too cute!

My stack of pregnancy books that arrived from Amazon (on my unmade bed). I had them in my cart while trying, but refused to order them until we got a positive.

The adorable baby things I bought from Target. I love grey! It could go with blue for a boy or pink for a girl!

Also saw this bib at Target and couldn't figure out why this dinosaur was drinking a beer on a baby's bib!

Pictures of our fun from the concert!

The shirt I embroidered for my dad

The blocks I made for my mom

My dad's face when he saw his shirt

My mom when she saw her blocks

Me with my parents!

4 Weeks

Ok....this is my very first post in the series to be published. But not my first post written. I started writing these at 9 weeks and then went backwards from there based on the notes on my phone because I want them for memory's sake. So....this is trying to go back and remember where my head was 2 days after I found out! (Though the pictures we started taking immediately!)

How far along: 4 Weeks (Crazy that it is considered 4 weeks when really there's only been a baby for less than 2 and I have only known for 2 days!)
How big is the baby: The size of a poppy seed. Adam went to Dunkin Donuts to get us a poppy seed bagel just for this. I dropped a few poppy seeds in the making of this photo. We have started calling the baby Poppy. Do you know how small a poppy seed is?!?!
Weight gain: None
Doctor: Haven't called yet.
Clothes: Regular
Sleep: None because I am TOO EXCITED!
Movement: Not yet!
Food/Aversions: None
What I miss: I missed Adam until he came home Saturday afternoon!
What I am looking forward to: Taking more pregnancy tests so it feels real!
How I found out: So I had been temping and charting throughout the summer. I fully expected this month to be a bust since Adam was out of town for the second half of the month. Timing is everything though and the charting helped! I tested Thursday and Friday with negative results. But Saturday morning when I took my temperature and it was still up....I had a feeling! I jumped out of bed and took a test. Positive! Another one. Positive! Another one. Positive! (They were three different kinds/brands. I'm not TOTALLY crazy). I couldn't believe it. I just stared at them forever. It was 5:30 in the morning. Adam was supposed to come home Friday night, but his flight was cancelled, so he wasn't due in until Saturday afternoon (that day). I downloaded a bunch of pregnancy apps. Looked at my charting calendar. Looked at the pregnancy tests. And...repeat. That morning when I finally got up, I went craft show-ing with my mom and kept my big secret. By the time I picked Adam up from the airport, I thought I'd made the whole thing up...so I didn't tell him! I even had thoughts in my head that I would wait until Monday or Wednesday when it was even more sure to tell him (Uh...he would have killed me). Sunday morning I woke up and took 2 more tests....darker! When he was in the shower I laid the positive tests on a onesie I made that says "My Daddy Drives a Tractor" on his side of the bed. When he *finally* noticed he said, "Really?? Really??" It was so fun! We are so thrilled. It doesn't even feel real! I could barely pay attention in church!

ATTENTION! PEE STICK AHEAD!

..............................................

Are you still looking?

....................................................

Ok, there it is! How I told Adam!

Some close friends knew we were trying because it was really hard to hide not drinking during the trying weeks this summer. So they knew right when the time to ask was. It was either lie and say it was a bust that month (and that seemed mean because then they would be sad for me when really I was happy) or tell them SO SUPER early. So, we decided to tell them.

My good friends from college have been very supportive this summer so when they asked how it was going, I sent them the picture of the tractor and the pregnancy tests! Lots of happy texts! Erin stopped by to drop something off so I said, "Oh, I have something to show you. Which one should I order?" and texted her the following picture. And then when she was looking at it, I said, "For me?" Lots of squealing, crying, and hugging ensued!
